When Dennis arrived at Overlook’s Emergency Department in severe pain, he had no idea his kidneys had completely failed. At 2 a.m., he made a call his mother will never forget:
“Mom, they say I’m in kidney failure.”
From that moment, Dennis faced a fight that tested every ounce of his strength. Emergency dialysis began that night and continued for days. Over the next two years, Dennis endured grueling treatments, blood clots, pneumonia, COVID, and infections requiring urgent care. Through it all, he never gave up – and neither did Overlook.
Even while battling illness, Dennis wanted to give back. He joined Overlook as a patient transport associate, proudly wearing the badge of the medical center that saved his life.
“This place gave me hope when I had none,” Dennis says. “I wanted to be part of that.”
Seven months later, Dennis received the call he had been waiting for—a kidney transplant. Today, he’s thriving and making a difference working on the very unit where patients face their toughest journeys. His kindness and upbeat spirit bring comfort to families every day.
