Today’s fully optimized hospital of the future features new medical infrastructure in nearly every room, double the number of private patient rooms, and an alignment of clinical programs designed to make care more patient centric. Services throughout the hospital have been relocated and units built, expanded or renovated, all while patients continued to receive the world-class care they expect.

A 78,000-square-foot expansion project known as the East Building was completed in 2025. Split between three floors, it involved the total renovation of an existing 42,000-square-foot, two-story section of the hospital, topped by a completely new 8th floor, as well as a three-story addition at the end of the building. The bridge connecting to the main hospital was enlarged and a dedicated patient transport elevator tower was added.

  • On the 6th floor, the Healthcare Foundation of NJ Newborn and Family Care Unit features 36 single-bed rooms with full baths; the new Summit Foundation Nursery; and the fully renovated 15-bay Hersh Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
  • On the 7th floor, the F. M. Kirby Foundation Neuroscience Center houses the Jeneil B. Reeves Neuro Intensive Care Unit featuring 12 critical care rooms, each with a charting station outside the door; and the Bouras Acute Care Unit with 22 private patient rooms with full baths.
  • On the 8th floor, the Wilf Family Cardiology Center has 30 patient rooms adjacent to the Kevin E. Bell, MD Critical Care Unit that includes 28 private critical care rooms and three intermediate care rooms.

Two ORs were added, and a 26-bay prep and recovery unit was fully reconstructed in the John E. Reeves Center for Same Day Surgery. Completed in 2025, the center also boasts new registration and waiting areas, minor procedure room, and satellite central sterile.

Significant renovations and an addition to the Frank and Mimi Walsh Maternity Center yielded a new registration and four-room triage unit, eight delivery rooms, two operating room (OR) suites with prep and recovery areas, and a central charting area, all opened in 2024.

Rededicated in 2023, the Stacy Goldstein Breast Center saw renovations to waiting areas, consultation spaces, and procedure rooms, and next-generation ultrasound and mammography machines added.

The new South Garage, completed in 2022, provides on-site parking for all team members, eliminating the need for street and remote parking in the community. This frees up space for patients and visitors in existing parking garages and makes parking throughout the campus more convenient.

Opened in 2021, the Hersh Children’s Center features a 12,000-square-foot extension to the existing emergency department (ED), housing a hybrid pediatric nine-bed unit and eight-bed pediatric ED.

The front entrance of the hospital’s Bouras Emergency Department was also completely redesigned, including a new lobby and adult triage area.
