Ingrid Franco, a nurse at Overlook Medical Center, United States Air Force veteran and reservist, and exemplary leader, was recently awarded a $2,500 scholarship to offset the expenses of her final semester in the Rutgers School of Nursing Post-Baccalaureate Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. The scholarship is made possible through a grant awarded by The Ena Zucchi Charitable Trust to Overlook Foundation.

As a first-generation Hispanic woman, Ingrid was the first member of her family to graduate from college. After working as a wound care nurse for 10 years, her interest in developing evidence-based practices fueled her decision to pursue a DNP. For her capstone project, Ingrid has implemented a quality improvement project to reduce wounds among diabetic patients.

Set to graduate in May 2022, Ingrid looks forward to using innovation and collaboration with different disciplines to improve patient outcomes and increase access to medical care. She hopes to not only implement change in practice, but to inspire and empower others to be leaders in nursing practice.
