As the first signs of spring begin to bloom, Overlook Medical Center is experiencing its own season of revitalization. We are excited to share the inspiring story of Javita T., a remarkable woman whose journey embodies the spirit of hope and rebirth.
Originally from Newark, Javita and her husband moved to Plainfield to create a loving home for their growing family. After a challenging fertility journey, they were overjoyed to discover they were expecting triplets.
Javita’s pregnancy was not without its challenges. As an older maternity patient, she faced a high-risk pregnancy and experienced complications such as anemia, thyroid issues, and gestational diabetes. Despite these obstacles, Javita found unwavering support at Overlook Medical Center. Our dedicated team of specialists at the Healthcare Foundation of NJ Newborn and Family Care Unit within the Frank and Mimi Walsh Maternity Center worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the safe arrival of her babies.

On St. Patrick’s Day 2024, a trio of good luck joined the world when Javita gave birth to three beautiful babies—Angel, Reign, and Gabriel. Dr. Winsome Parchment performed the complicated delivery with the help of a team that was prepped and ready. Right next door, set up in advance to care for the premature babies, was the neonatal resuscitation room – something new at Overlook that has had a huge impact on the team.
The triplets spent 75 days in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where they received exceptional care from our compassionate nurses. Javita herself faced postpartum preeclampsia, a rare but serious condition, and returned to Overlook for treatment shortly after being discharged. Throughout this challenging time, she found solace in knowing her babies were in the best hands.
“Overlook Medical Center was more than just a hospital to us; it was a lifeline. The care and compassion we received from the entire team made us feel like family. They gave us the greatest gift of all—time. Time for our babies to grow and thrive, time for me to heal, and time for us to learn how to care for our little ones without fear. We are forever grateful for the incredible support and love we found at Overlook.” – Javita T.
Today, Javita’s babies are thriving, crawling, and filling their home with joy. Javita continues to visit Overlook for her children’s pediatric care and for Angel’s ongoing treatment for hip dysplasia. She speaks fondly of the ongoing support and kindness she receives from our team.
As we celebrate the completion of the East Building, a major expansion of our hospital campus, we are reminded of our commitment to providing outstanding family-centered care. This new space includes a state-of-the-art postpartum unit, renovated labor and delivery suites, and an enhanced NICU, all designed to offer the best possible care for our patients.
“The design of our space is nothing short of amazing,” says Nurse Manager, Isabel Pierre-Louis. “You can see every one of our all-private postpartum rooms from the nurses station. And with the core nursing staff covering four areas, we’re able to work together in ways we weren’t previously able to. That’s a big plus for everyone!”
We are proud of the strides we have made and look forward to continuing to provide exceptional care to families like Javita’s. Join us in celebrating this season of renewal and growth at Overlook Medical Center.
